The below image was taken at Eden Project, Cornwall, from the footbridge. This image shows the delicate dooms that look like large bubble wrap and the roof in the foreground like spikes. I really liked the shapes (dome and the spikes) and the contrast between the white domes and the black roof in the foreground.
The final image has been turned into black and white to enhance the effect and to show the tonal range of this image.

The Thought ..... Street Photography ..... Basingstoke at night
The below photograph was taken in Basingstoke late on evening. The atmosphere was very clam, with the street lights lighting up the high street and deep blue sky in the background.
The camera has been hand held with the ISO increased to avoid camera shake.
The final image has been adjusted in Lightroom to enhance the colours as they seemed that evening.

Street Photography ... Shop signs
I took the below photograph in Leicester High Street. I really liked the shop sign on the upper window the way the shark is looking through the window. The shark on the upper sign on it's own would not have made an impact, I decided to add the sign below with the name of the shop.

Sunrise on Loch Lomond
This photograph is part of series of photographs I took of Loch Lomond in Scotland. The first few photographs show the sun rising from behind the mountains, making the scene look on fire.
The boat and part of the mountains are in silhouette creating a very moody and a clam atmosphere in the scene. This emphasises the scale and the light falling on the Loch and the boat. I used a tripod and colours of the final image were edited in photoshop.

Street Photography
Street photography is one of my favourite subjects, because its fun and easy to capture the mood and the atmosphere.
Here are a few points to keep in mind when taking the photographs:
The right camera settings on both SLRs and Compact Cameras
Set SLR cameras on either Aperture Mode or Shutter Mode.
Here are some examples of 'Street Photography', all the below photographs have been taken on 'Aperture mode'.
Isolate your subject and focus on the detail
Move closer to your subject
Increase your ISO and take photographs at night
Capture the mood of shoppers
Photograph illuminated shop signs
Focus on your subject and there surroundings
Capture candid photographs

Here are a few points to keep in mind when taking the photographs:
The right camera settings on both SLRs and Compact Cameras
- If allowed, use a tripod. Keep in mind that many places will not allow the use of tripods.
- Plan where to take the High Street photographs.
- Time - is it a day time shot, or a night shot.
- Think about composition, how to include people in the photograph, leading lines, colour, close-ups etc.
- Exposure - if taking photographs at night, it's always best to over and under expose the shot by 0.3. (use this as a guide only, adjust according to your image) Every camera will have a '-+' symbol.
- Final finished image — before I take any photographs, I always think about how I want the final finished image to look. If it's going to be in colour, sepia, b/w or do I need to add noise/gain in the final image to create the mood and atmosphere.
Settings for Compact Cameras
Day-Time
Use 'Landscape' Mode (it will give you the maximum depth of field)
Night-Time
Use 'Sunset', 'Fireworks', 'Night' Modes (every camera is different, please check your camera manual to see which mode gives a slow shutter speed. Use these as a guidance only)
Set SLR cameras on either Aperture Mode or Shutter Mode.

Simiple steps to enhance your photographs
This week's quick tips are editing your RAW images in Lightroom. Always photograph and edit RAW images not jpegs, (RAW files record more detail than Jpegs).
The below photograph is from the series of my personal projects which has been edited in Lightroom.
Camera: Sony a6000
Aperture: f11
Shutter speed: 1/100
ISO: 200
Lightroom adjustments:
Temp: 5691
Contrast: increased to +12
Shadows: decreased to -12
Blacks: decreased to -7
Added graduated filter to darken the sky
Burn tool used to bring out the reflections in the water
