Tip of the week

Tip of the week - 11th March

Total darkness

During total darkness, there is obviously no natural light available. These are perfect conditions to photograph trailing lights from cars, lit cityscapes, fireworks and light movement. The exposure will be very long and can lead to minutes

  • use a tripod to avoid camera shake
  • set the camera at f11 or f16 on aperture mode
  • cameras that don't have aperture mode, use pre-set modes; sunrise, sunset, night modes

Mobile phone photography

I am always taking photographs, either using my Nikon, Fuji X-A1, Sony a6000 or my mobile phone.
The photo below has been taken with my BlackBerry Passport.

The photo has been edited using the phone's editing software, which I think is just amazing for minor adjustments like colour enhancement, black & white conversion or even toned photos.

For this photograph I have just enhanced the colours of the foxglove

Saturation and contrast was increased for this image
This image was converted into black & white and the contrast was increased to darken the trees.

Sometimes it's best to capture the moment rather than letting it slip by.

A walk around the Newbury Canal - part 2

This short article is a follow up from last week's article on the 'A walk around the Newbury Canal - part 1', all the below photographs have been taken with my mobile phone.

This is a close up photograph which has been edited on the mobile phone to increase the contrast.

This photograph was taken by the park, framed the shoot to have the buildings in the background with the swans in the foreground.

As I turned around, I saw the boat approaching, took this shot with the swan in the foreground leading all the way to the boat.

Under the bridge
The ripples in the water looked interesting with all the colours and the reflections.

A close up of the trees and part of the canal.

The canal
All the above photographs were taken on my mobile phone, each photograph was just enhanced slightly to bring up the colours or converted into a black & white photograph. These photographs have been watermarked in Lightroom.

Mother's day

Happy mother's day mum,

I love you more than anything in this world
Holding me, being there for me
Taking away all my worries and giving all the happiness
Filling my life with lots joy and colour
Only you know how much I love you

Love you Mum
