Low Light and Night Photography

Taking photographs in low light conditions can be very exciting and creative. Here are 2 important things to keep in mind: -

1) The time of the day:
  • Before sunrise (pre-dawn)
  • Sunset
  •  After sunset (twilight & total darkness)

2) Camera settings: use Aperture mode on the camera

F-stop f5
Exposure time 1/90
ISO 100

Portarits on the bridge

I took this photograph on the bridge with flash with a soft box mounted on the stand. The flash was used as a fill and placed it on my left pointing over my shoulder.  I set my camera on manual mode and under exposed the image by 1/ 2 stop in order to enhance the colours in the clouds.

Camera settings:

F4
Exposure 1/500
ISO 100
Flash output: -1/2 stop

Use these settings as a guide, and adjust according to your specific cameras.

Burns Night 2016

The Pink Place is a charity that helps and supports people with cancer. The Pink Place is based in Basingstoke and is run by a team of volunteers in Basingstoke town centre at Taylor's Hair & Beauty. Please see their website for further details and the sessions run by The Pink Place.

I have been the Official Photographer for The Pink Place since 2013 and provide my services for free. The three year journey has just be really incredible, I truly have enjoyed being part of an amazing team of volunteers. Every event has always been different and enjoyable and I always look forward the next event.

My most recent event I photographed is the Burns Night held at Holiday Inn, Basingstoke. Below is a small selection of photos:
